6 Best Places for Berry Picking Near Orlando

By Kate Cohen
January 10, 2025 (Updated May 5, 2025)

Spring is the sweetest season of all in Central Florida.

That’s because with warmer, more moderate temperatures come an abundance of produce and berries, ripe for picking.

A cropped shot of a young girl with her arms wrapped around a large basket of strawberries in a strawberry patch. Enjoy berry picking near Orlando.

Picking your own berries is the perfect screen-free activity to enjoy with family, or a charming day date with someone special.

Central Florida used to be covered in orange groves and farmland, but a deep freeze pushed many citrus farmers further south. Combined with the quickly growing city of Orlando, many family farms were sold or moved elsewhere.

Today, you can still find farms opening their fields to guests interested in a U-Pick experience.

Though many are a bit of a drive from the city of Orlando (think half an hour to an hour away), it’s well worth the journey to enjoy beautiful Florida weather and some of the tastiest fruit the state has to offer.

Here are the 5 best places for berry picking near Orlando.

Southern Hill Farms

Clermont, FL

Southern Hill Farms is one of the most popular destinations for U-pick produce and agrotourism in Orlando.

Their Fall Festival is a must when autumn comes around, transforming the farm into a wonderland of pumpkins and cidery goodness.

In the spring, Southern Hill Farms is the perfect spot for picking strawberries, blueberries, peaches, and other seasonal goodies.

Their strawberry U-Pick season begins as early as December. Harvest your own ripe ruby-colored berries for as long as the season lasts.

Starting in March, you can pick your own blueberries – five different varieties of them, to be exact. Three varieties of peaches are also available for picking around the same time of year.

Additionally, you can pick your own towering sunflower stems in the spring, fall, and winter.

Come hungry to enjoy food and drinks from the Southern Hill Eatery, Southern Hill Café, and guest food trucks.

The Kid Zone is full of carnival rides and attractions to keep younger pickers entertained on weekends. Entry to this area of the farm is $24 for guests 42” and taller, and $20 for anyone under 42”.

Amber Brooke Farms

Eustis, FL

U-Pick adventures at Amber Brooke Farms have become a favorite tradition for many Orlando-area families.

With over 155 acres of produce and an array of activities for guests of all ages to enjoy, it’s the perfect place to enjoy a day of fresh Florida sunshine and take time to reconnect with nature.

Throughout the spring, you’ll find a variety of rotating U-Pick crops, including strawberries, blueberries, sunflowers, zinnias, sweet corn, and fresh vegetables.

While you’re picking berries, flowers, and sweet corn, you can also treat your party to a Farm Fun Pass for $10, giving you access to attractions like the giant slide hill, jump pads, a ball zone, and playgrounds.

Concessions are also available for purchase so you can stay refreshed, hydrated, and satiated throughout your visit to Amber Brooke Farms.

Pappy’s Patch U-Pick Strawberries

Oviedo, FL

Pappy’s Patch U-Pick Strawberries is a popular spot for straightforward strawberry picking with heart.

Their U-Pick season typically begins in December and lasts through April, depending on the weather.

Keep your eye on their Facebook page for updates about when they’ll be open and the status of their crops.

This popular farm sells out of berries quickly, and you don’t want to be locked outside the gate when the farm is picked over for the day!

Far Reach Ranch Blueberries

Tavares, FL

Blueberry lovers can adventure to Tavares for some good ol’ fashioned blueberry picking.

Once an orange grove and cattle ranch, Far Reach Ranch has become a sprawling berry farm and beloved hidden gem of the Central Florida agricultural community.

Pick your own blueberries from March through May. They even host Sunset U-Pick events where you can enjoy berry picking, free sunset hayrides, tasty food, live music, and more.

When you visit the Ranch, prepare to be tempted by a selection of homemade blueberry baked goods, jams, and other sweet treats.

Head to Tavares for fresh farm-picked vibes and plenty of delicious Florida blueberries.

From November through May, you can find juicy ripe strawberries growing in their fields.

The Mick family also grows and sells produce like sweet corn, zucchini, limes, green beans, sweet potatoes, and so much more.

While you’re picking, pick up homemade preserves, farm-raised beef, and fresh eggs.

8 Questions to Ask When Choosing a Wedding Venue

January 10, 2025 (Updated May 5, 2025)

Congratulations! You said “YES.”

Now comes the fun part – bringing the wedding of your dreams to life.

February is National Wedding Month, which conveniently culminates as National Wedding Planning Day on March 1. This makes late winter/early spring the perfect time to start designing your dream day, beginning with the all-important question: where should you have your wedding?

Outside in front of a lake and trees, a bride and groom pause to share a kiss in the aisle surrounded by people throwing white rose petals. Rosen Shingle Creek is a beautiful wedding venue in Orlando.

One of the first major decisions to check off your list is choosing a venue. Knowing where you’re hosting your wedding can help you determine other choices like your menu, décor, and entertainment.

Seeing your potential wedding venue in person is critical to making your decision. You’ll get a sense of the overall vibes of the space while also getting inspiration for your big day.

But there’s so much more to a wedding venue than appearance. To make sure you’re making the right decision for your unique occasion, here is a list of 8 questions to ask when choosing a wedding venue.

Considering hosting your wedding at Rosen Shingle Creek? Contact our wedding specialist to go over all of your important questions.

8 Questions to Ask when Choosing a Wedding Venue

1. What is the venue’s capacity?

Your wedding is one of the most memorable days of your life, in part because of the people surrounding you and your partner. It’s important to make sure there’s room for everyone to celebrate by your side.

Before starting to tour venues, draft your guest list. Determine if your wedding will be kid-friendly, and who will get a plus-one.

Once you’ve estimated your headcount, use it to identify venues that can comfortably accommodate your family and friends.

In addition to maximum capacities, wedding venues have minimum guest counts. If you’re planning an intimate wedding, confirm any minimums and see if you’re able to offset a smaller guest count by spending more on things like décor or an upgraded alcohol package.

2. How much is the base site fee? What does it include?

Besides the guest list, the budget is one of the first things you should consider when planning a wedding (and they often go hand-in-hand).

While many details of your wedding (like the menu and entertainment) can be adjusted according to budget, venues often charge a non-negotiable site fee.

When researching or touring a wedding venue, establish how much this fee is and what it includes.

If it includes food, alcohol, bartenders, service fees, and other wedding costs, a high site fee may save you money — and time —compared to piecing together a variety of á la carte services.

Additionally, find out if amenities like a rehearsal and getting-ready suite are included in the site fee. If not, are they available as add-ons?

3. Is the venue accessible to me, my partner, and my guests?

After putting time and thought into your guest list, ensure that as many invitees as possible can make it to your special day.

Depending on your guests and their individual needs, accessibility can mean different things. You may find yourself asking the following questions:

Can guests with physical disabilities navigate the venue? (Keep in mind that historic venues are sometimes exempt from ADA requirements.)

If the venue has in-house catering, can they accommodate allergies and dietary restrictions?

Is there space for children’s activities?

Can the venue accommodate a sensory-friendly A/V set-up or provide a quiet room?

If you’re planning a destination wedding or will invite out-of-town guests, accessibility can also mean ensuring your guests can easily get to your wedding venue.

Depending on how most guests will travel to your wedding, consider how close your prospective venue is to the nearest airport, train station, or interstate.

It’s also important to consider where out-of-town guests will stay while traveling for your event.

When you hold your reception at a hotel, you can often secure a discounted room rate for family and friends.

Your guests will love the convenience of a hotel wedding venue — they won’t need to worry about getting home after a long day of celebrating.

4. What dates are available?

Wedding venues often book up months — or years — in advance.

You and your spouse-to-be may want to get married on a specific, meaningful date. If not, it’s best to choose a time of year you’d like to get married while staying flexible on the exact day.

Either way, find out how far out any venues of interest are booking weddings.

Then, decide if their availability works with your timeframe.

5. What are the venue’s wedding vendor policies?

It’s common for wedding venues to have preferred vendor lists.

These lists can save you valuable time when finding and hiring professionals like officiants, DJs, and photographers.

When you receive this list, research the companies included to see if there are vendors who can carry out your wedding vision.

This step is especially important if cultural traditions will come into play when planning your ceremony, menu, or music.

If you want to hire a wedding professional who’s not on the list, be sure you understand the venue’s policy on outside vendors.

Keep in mind that they may be more flexible on some vendor types than others, or they may only make exceptions for cultural reasons.

6. How long will you have access to the space?

Your wedding day is much more than a ceremony and reception.

Your vendors need to set up, and you need to get ready for the big day.

You’ll also want to hold a ceremony rehearsal, typically the night before the wedding.

While touring a wedding location, determine how early your vendors can arrive and when the wedding planner or coordinator can begin decorating the space.

If you think you’ll need more time for set-up, ask if you can extend your rental and how much it would cost.

7. What happens if your plans change?

If you’ve ever attended a wedding on a rainy day or know anyone who got married in 2020, you know that even couples who’ve thought of everything sometimes need to pivot.

If your sights are set on an outdoor wedding, find out how your venue handles inclement weather. Will they provide a tent or backup space indoors? Avoid unwanted surprises by asking about your venue’s policy on rescheduling in the event of health concerns or a major storm.

8. What else is there to do at my wedding venue?

Planning a wedding takes a lot of work. While you want to be thorough when researching wedding venues, don’t let the daunting decision distract you from what a wedding truly is: a fun party with your closest family and friends.

More often, couples are looking beyond the ceremony and reception and planning whole wedding weekends, packed with mouthwatering meals and exciting excursions.

If you’re looking to host an unforgettable wedding weekend in Orlando, Rosen Shingle Creek is a wonderful venue option.

Our hotel features stunning views that will add an air of elegance to your event and make your wedding pictures sparkle.

A beautiful display of Christmas lights decorating the towering Rosen Shingle Creek at night.

When it comes to holiday traditions, there are few quite as spectacular as taking in the sights of elaborate light displays.

Whether you prefer to stroll along a festively lit path, drive through neighborhoods to marvel at decorated homes, or celebrate with a spirited community celebration, there are plenty of places for you to experience Christmas lights in Orlando.

Here are some of our favorite spots for must-see holiday lights this year.

5 of the Best Places to Experience the Holiday Lights

Dazzling Nights at Leu Gardens is one of the most popular ways to enjoy the spectacle of holiday lights in Orlando, Florida.

Every year, Leu Gardens’ 3/4-mile trail comes alive with millions of twinkling lights.

This year, the trail has been redesigned to include epic luminaria walls inspired by European holiday festivals, a candlelit forest of stained-glass windows, and a 70-foot tunnel of garland and glittering ornaments.

While you’re enjoying the beautiful views of holiday lights, you can enjoy sweet treats, cozy holiday drinks (including adult beverages), and live entertainment.

Ticket prices start at $22 for adults and $19 for children.

Enjoy Leu Gardens’ stunning lights display from Nov. 29, 2024, to Jan. 5, 2025.

2. Downtown for the Holidays at Lake Eola Park

The spirit of Downtown Orlando is made merrier with the Downtown for the Holidays Celebrations at Lake Eola Park.

The lights will be on display every day of the week, but on Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays, the festivities are even jollier. Stroll through the Merry Market where local vendors will be selling handmade products that make perfect holiday gifts. Enjoy snowfall near the Lake Eola House, and head inside to meet Santa for free!

Fine Dementia-friendly Dining comes to Orlando

Central Florida Dementia-friendly Dining welcomes A Land Remembered the first signature steakhouse restaurant to feature fine dining service to families and loved ones with dementia!

ORLANDO, FL (October 28, 2024) — Dementia-friendly Dining restaurants in Central Florida welcomes Rosen Shingle Creek’s A Land Remembered as the first restaurant to feature fine dining service to families and loved ones with dementia. Dementia-friendly Dining restaurants are food service establishments that provide friendly, safe, and enjoyable places where families and friends may bring their loved ones who are living with Alzheimer’s and other forms of dementia. Dementia-friendly Dining is now providing access to many who suffer from isolation and the effects dementia has on families.

Co-Founders Dennis Dulniak and Toni Gitles are thrilled to have the signature steakhouse A Land Remembered as the first fine dining option and expand the number of community restaurants offering Dementia-friendly Dining. Dan Giordano, General Manager of Rosen Shingle Creek said “From the moment that I was introduced to the dementia-friendly dining initiative, I had an innate sense that this effort was a perfect correlation with our company’s core principles and mission. All of us at Rosen Hotels & Resorts look forward to making a difference in the lives of not only those afflicted with dementia, but the ever so important caregivers as well. I remain excited about the prospect of expanding our reach and anxiously await the opportunity to introduce our property to these organizations’ participants.” Dulniak responded, “There is a definite need to provide accommodations among our unique populations with dementia for creating quality life experiences and fond memories, and A Land Remembered private dining room provides an exceptional opportunity for families to celebrate in style! A Land Remembered – Fine Dementia-friendly Dining

Toni and I recently dined here and were most impressed with the high quality of food, attention, warmth, friendliness and good cheer – synonymous with Rosen’s hospitality!” He credits caregiving for his wife Nancy who passed away from Early Onset Alzheimer’s in January 2021 as his motivation to now help other families facing dementia. Among his passions are the Nana’s Books Foundation that he and his sons created in Nancy’s honor that sends books on Alzheimer’s, dementia and other disabilities to public libraries and students in Title I schools. In three years, the Foundation has delivered 12,762 books to 16 Title I schools and neighboring public libraries among eight states, including OCPS Academic Center for Excellence. www.NanasBooks.org.

A Land Remembered offers their Fine Dementia-friendly Dining every 1st and 3rd Sundays from 2 – 4 p.m. by reservation only at 407-996-8588 or 407-996-9770. They join the other restaurants that include: Hollerbach’s (205 E 1st St in Sanford) every Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday from 3 – 5 p.m. Oviedo’s The Townhouse Restaurant (139 N Central Avenue) every Wednesday from 2 – 5 p.m., Seminole BBQ (640 S County Rd 419 in Chuluota) every Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday from 2 – 5 p.m., Perkins – Winter Springs (701 E. Try the Best Seafood in Orlando at These 5 Restaurants

By Kate Cohen
(Updated May 6, 2025)

The state of Florida is a beautiful peninsula surrounded by the Atlantic Ocean and the Gulf of Mexico. It makes sense that you’d find an abundance of fabulous seafood wherever you travel in the state.

Orlando is in a prime location to source fresh seafood from Florida’s coastal fishing regions daily, offering locals and visitors the chance to enjoy some of the finest catches in the country.

At Rosen Shingle Creek, we not only serve exceptional seafood dishes; we’re also perfectly located for guests who want to try the best aquatic cuisine the City Beautiful has to offer.

Here are five fabulous restaurants where you can find some of the best seafood in Orlando.

The Nauti Lobstah

A lobster roll with lettuce, a cup of butter, and a basket of potato chips sit on a sheet of blue checkered tissue paper beside a can of beer. The Nauti Lobstah serves some of the best seafood in Orlando.

The Nauti Lobstah is the perfect spot to savor your favorite Northeastern and New England seafood specialties.

This family-owned restaurant has recently been awarded the Critic’s Choice Best Seafood in Orlando by the Orlando Sentinel Foodie Awards and Chef Mike Rumplik was recognized as the Best Local Chef by Orlando Weekly readers in the 2024 Best of Orlando.

As former New Englanders, the Nauti Lobstah family found themselves missing the classic tastes of home while living in Central Florida. They set out to open a restaurant that would serve all the “ah’s” of traditional New England seafood: lobst-ahs, oyst-ahs, chowd-ahs, steam-ahs, and more.

Their most iconic menu item to date is the Biggest Lobster Roll in Florida, a photo-worthy two-foot-long lobster roll. Served on freshly griddled bread made by a local bakery and stuffed with a hefty 2 pounds of fresh Maine lobster meat, this epic lobster roll has become a viral sensation on social media and throughout Central Florida.

The Nauti Lobstah isn’t just a lobster joint. Their menu also features a variety of dishes starring seafood like shrimp, crab legs, grouper, Chilean sea bass, and so much more.

The Nauti Lobstah took the place of its beloved predecessor, The Catfish Place, several years ago. They still honor the former restaurant’s legacy by offering several catfish favorites, including All You Can Eat Catfish.

The Boathouse

There’s no shortage of great dining at Disney Springs, but when it comes to amazing seafood, The Boathouse tops the list.

This beautifully themed establishment offers waterfront dining overlooking Lake Buena Vista, a collection of fully restored Dream Boats from the 1930s, 40s, and 50s, and Amphicar tours that drive riders straight into the lake in a floating vintage car.

Their menu is just as special as the ambiance. Enjoy a selection of fresh seafood from the raw bar, including oysters on the half shell and wild caught Sea of Cortez shrimp, both served with a London dry gin cocktail sauce and cucumber mignonette.

In addition to market fresh fish like seared yellowfin tuna and Gulf of Mexico red grouper, The Boathouse is also known for specialty seafood dishes including Maine Lobster Tail Oscar, succulent Hand Breaded Coconut Shrimp, and a tender jumbo lump crab cake.

The Boathouse is also home to one of the most viral Disney drinks: The Duck Duck Razz. This aqua-blue cocktail is made with Stoli Razberi, peach schnapps, and blue curacao, topped with a rubber ducky that, yes, you get to take home.

Reel Fish

Crawfish, crab legs, corn on the cob, and a side of butter on brown parchment paper. Visit Reel Fish for fresh seafood in Orlando.

In the coastal south in the 1930s, fish camps were common establishments set up to provide workers and their families with fresh fish and hush puppies. Reel Fish in Winter Park aims to capture the same nautical spirit and authenticity for its guests with a menu of fresh, seasonal seafood.

As a guest, you’ll experience warm Southern hospitality as you dine on sustainably sourced fish from the Atlantic Ocean and Gulf of Mexico.

Their menu features seafood dishes like pecan-crusted rainbow trout served with slow-cooked green beans, and wild-caught Florida shrimp on top of creamy, cheesy grits.

Indulge in a Low Country Boil with fresh-caught Florida shrimp, scallops, Cedar Key clams, PEI mussels, snow crab clusters, and andouille sausage mixed with corn on the cob, redskin potatoes, and charred okra. Dip everything in drawn butter to take your feast to the next level.

Reel Fish is a great go-to for tasty starters, salads, entrées, sandwiches, golden-fried shrimp, oysters, fish, and clams.

They’re also serving up brunch on weekends from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. with showstoppers like blue crab and sweet potato hash, or the opulent lobster benedict royale.

High Tide Harry’s

a blue awning reading “family owned & operated since 1995” hangs over a patio decorated with colorful fish caricatures. You can find some of the best seafood in Orlando at High Tide Harry’s.
Photo: High Tide Harry’s

For nearly 30 years, High Tide Harry’s has been an Orlando seafood mainstay for locals and visitors alike.

This casual, family-owned seafood restaurant is great for seafood lovers of all ages, and there’s plenty on the menu for anyone who prefers their food sourced from land.

With hefty portions and the freshest ingredients offered at affordable prices, it’s no wonder locals just voted High Tide Harry’s as Orlando Weekly’s Best Seafood Restaurant for the fifth year in a row.

Order snow, king, and Dungeness crab by the pound, or order mussels, clams, and oysters from the raw bar. Get your fill of shrimp prepared in a variety of styles including fried, garlic, popcorn, and coconut. Perfectly cooked filets of mahi, salmon, grouper, tuna, and whitefish make fabulous entrées, especially when paired with your choice of tasty sides.

Enjoy a refreshing craft beer or cocktail with your meal, and if you’re feeling really thirsty, you can sip on a Fishbowl, named for the enormous vessel in which it’s served.

Wine 4 Oysters

Wine 4 Oysters is a love letter to culinary travel, adventure, and exploration.

The owners have traveled the globe in search of the best flavors and unique characteristics of oysters from around the world.

When you dine at either of the two Wine 4 Oysters restaurants in Orlando, you’ll be invited to taste the most exquisite oysters from their raw bar, each reflecting the unique culture and terroir of its homeland.

Whether you prefer your oysters raw, poached, or baked, Wine 4 Oysters has the perfect bite for your palate. If oysters aren’t your thing, peruse their menu for incredible dishes like mussels, jambalaya, shrimp or tuna tacos, and lobster risotto.

Wine 4 Oysters also has an extensive wine list to pair your seafood with the perfect vino from around the world.

Check out their fabulous happy hour Monday through Friday from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. for 30% off raw oysters and signature cocktails and $2 off draft and select wines.

If you’re looking for delicious seafood without having to leave the comfort of your resort, there are several dining options at Rosen Shingle Creek from which to choose.

At Cala Bella, you’ll find “farm to fork” Italian cuisine with Mediterranean influences, brought to life with ingredients grown in our onsite garden, Emma’s Creekside Farm.

The menu features seafood specialties like our Charred Octopus with a rich romesco, heirloom cherry tomatoes, and a fennel confit, topped with colorful bunching onions and mustard greens.

Our legacy steakhouse, A Land Remembered, features dishes like Seared Sea Scallops with a sweet corn puree, local mushrooms, and house smoked bacon, and the mouthwatering Jumbo Lump Crab Cake with a preserved lemon tartar and parsley salad.

Wherever you decide to catch your next meal, make Rosen Shingle Creek the place where you lower your sails and ride out the waves.
