Orlando Fringe Festival: 5 Must-Try Experiences

Orlando’s fine arts scene is one of the best in the country.

Every year, our venues host some of the world’s biggest superstar musicians and performers, touring productions of renowned Broadway shows, and epic headliners from around the world.

While it’s always exciting to see your favorite recognizable artists, the heart of Orlando’s art scene is in its local events, like the Orlando Fringe Festival.

The Orlando Fringe logo in purple and orange.

This world-renowned celebration of the arts showcases independent artists from all over the globe.

This year’s festival, held May 13 – 26, 2025, is sure to be the biggest and best Orlando Fringe Festival yet.

What is a Fringe Festival?

The term “Fringe Festival” originated in Scotland in 1948.

Several artists, upset at being excluded from the Edinburgh Theatre Festival, decided to perform their shows at inexpensive or free venues around the “fringes” of the city.

These unconventional works soon began to draw attention, and the Edinburgh Fringe Festival became a showcase of independent artists from around the world.

To this date, Edinburgh Fringe is the largest running Fringe Festival in the world, with over 3,800 shows performing in their three-week 2024 season. Over 2 million tickets were sold.

Since 1948, dozens of Fringe shows have popped up around the world.

In the United States, the Orlando Fringe Festival is the largest and longest running.

Every year, Orlando hosts hundreds of artists and hundreds of thousands of audience members for an unjuried, uncensored celebration of artistry.

Shows are selected through a lottery process, meaning you’re just as likely to see a show from a first-time performer as a returning veteran of the stage.

This two-week festival is the perfect opportunity to experience some of the world’s most innovative, imaginative, and sometimes downright bizarre performances.

And there are so many reasons people have been returning to the festival year after year for over 30 years.

Here are our suggestions for 5 can’t miss experiences at the 2025 Orlando Fringe Festival.

See a Show…or Seven

A performer in plaid pants and a striped shirt stands on a stage balancing a bicycle on his chin at Orlando Fringe.

To see a Fringe show, you’ll need to purchase a button for around $10.

This is the only money that returns to the Fringe Festival; 100% of ticket proceeds go directly to the artists themselves.

Your button is a one-time purchase that then grants you access to buy tickets for any performance you choose.

Once you have your button, you can purchase show tickets online or through the Orlando Fringe app.

With the majority of the festival’s shows held in venues at Orlando Shakes, Orlando Family Stage, and Orlando Museum of Art, all of which are in Loch Haven Park, you can hop from one show to another with ease.

Typically, after the festival’s first few days, there will be buzz around the best performances of the year and the festival’s breakout hits.

But once word begins to spread, you’ll want to get your tickets quickly. Many venues are intimate and sell out fast.

Some shows at Orlando Fringe are intended for the entire family to enjoy. Others are for mature audiences only.

In any given season, you can find musicals, one-person shows, puppet performances, parodies, drag shows, avant-garde pieces, stand-up comedy, and more.

Every show is original and can be seen for around $10 per ticket.

Enjoy Dinner and Drinks on The Lawn and Take in a Concert on the Outdoor Stage

A group of people smiling, sitting at an outdoor table in front of a large event tent with a sign that reads Beer Tent.

There is a large central lawn in Loch Haven Park between Orlando Shakes, The Orlando Science Center, Orlando Museum of Art, and Orlando Family Stage.

For Orlando Fringe every year, the lawn transforms into a gathering place for artists, audience members, and the greater Orlando community.

There are dozens of food trucks (including the recurring favorite peddling Wisconsin cheese curds), an Orlando Fringe bar tent, outdoor art displays, and seating.

There is also a stage set up in a covered tent where you can catch live musicians performing most nights.

It’s the perfect space to grab a bite to eat between shows, order your favorite cocktail, and enjoy some live music as the sun goes down.

Take your Little Ones to Experience Kids Fringe

A green dinosaur mascot leads a group of children along a sidewalk in a park.

Held on the weekends during Orlando Fringe, Kids Fringe is a fully family-friendly celebration with art, live performances, storytelling, and play.

It’s the perfect opportunity to let your kids express themselves, use their imaginations, and socialize with other kids in the community.

Head to the Orlando Garden Center in Loch Haven Park from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturdays and Sundays of the festival to take advantage of amazing free entertainment everyone will love.

Browse the Art Galleries at Visual Fringe

Two women and a man stand laughing in a room serving as an art gallery with paintings on the walls.

Visual Fringe is the art portion of festival displaying a variety of artwork from artists around the world.

Similarly to Orlando Fringe’s performance pieces, artwork is selected through a lottery, meaning anyone can participate.

You’ll see paintings, sculptures, jewelry, ceramics, photographs, drawings, and a variety of other mediums on display.

Every piece is for sale, and 100% of the proceeds go directly back to the artist.

Take the time to browse the Orlando Fringe galleries, art markets, and selfie backdrops, or attend an art class or workshop to express your own creative side.

Support Young Artists at Fringers of the Future

Orlando Fringe is also a huge supporter of young artists.

Their Fringers of the Future program is a lottery open to middle school and high school artists and programs who are interested in bringing a performance to the festival.

All application and performance fees are waived, and 100% of ticket proceeds return to the school or program.

Additionally, Orlando Fringe hosts workshops and coordinates mentorships for young participants with industry professionals from around the world.

This incredible opportunity allows young artists to express themselves and share their creativity while also bringing audience members amazing shows from young performers.

Stay at Rosen Shingle Creek for your Orlando Fringe Festivities

Our elegant, comfortable accommodations are ideal for restful nights so you can refresh your energy for Fringe fun and festivities.

Have a Reel Good Time at the 2025 Florida Film Festival

February 18, 2025 (Updated May 5, 2025)

The 2025 Florida Film Festival was a huge success! Check back next year for details on the 35th Annual Florida Film Festival in 2026.

Ready for your close-up?

This spring, the film industry’s top filmmakers and movie buffs will flock to the Orlando area for the Florida Film Festival (FFF).

A blank black and white movie clapboard against a green background.

The star-fueled event takes place from April 11 – 20, 2025 and features over 160 film screenings, networking events, and an amazing awards ceremony.

As you mix, mingle, and marvel at movies, you may even spot a celeb or two.

Here’s everything you need to know about the 34th annual Florida Film Festival.

What kinds of films can I see at the festival?

A yellow bucket of popcorn that says “popcorn” on a wooden surface against a dark background. Enjoy popcorn and other food when you attend a Florida Film Festival movie at The Enzian.

The Florida Film Festival has something for every type of cinephile, from documentary devotees to animation aficionados.

While the jury is still selecting the 2025 lineup (to be announced on March 19), the festival always features a mix of short and feature films across all genres.

After midnight, the FFF takes a turn for the terrifying for the festival’s horror series.

Previous years’ lineups included:

  • Breaking, a thriller starring John Boyega, Michael K. Williams, and Connie Britton
  • River, an Australian nature documentary narrated by Willem Dafoe
  • The Spirit of Christmas, a 1995 short by Trey Parker and Matt Stone that set the groundwork for South Park
  • Cryptozoo, an animated film starring Lake Bell and Michael Cera
  • When We Were Bullies, an Oscar-nominated documentary
  • Showings of classic movies like Monty Python’s Life of Brian

Many of the classic film screenings end with panel discussions or Q&As with big names in Hollywood.

In 2019, FFF celebrated the 20th anniversary of The Blair Witch Project with a showing of the film and a mixer attended by the cast and crew.

Another year, audience members enjoyed Star Trek IV: The Voyage Home before asking William Shatner their questions.

After a 2021 screening of Blue Velvet, filmmaker Isabella Rossellini hopped on Zoom to chat with the audience.

Where does the event take place?

The Florida Film Festival takes place in the Orlando suburbs of Maitland and Winter Park, north of the city.

Much of the action will take place at the Enzian, the area’s only indie movie theater.

The Maitland movie house features comfy seating and a full-service bar and grill where you can order a snack and craft beer from the comfort of your chair. Or stop by the outdoor dining area between films to sip a cocktail under the shade of stately oak trees.

Other screenings will be hosted at the Regal theater in nearby Winter Park Village.

What makes this film festival special?

The quality of films shown at the FFF helps it outshine most film festivals.

For short films to be considered for an Academy Award, they need to be screened at an Oscar-qualifying festival.

Of the thousands of film festivals in the United States, fewer than 40 have this designation. And only one of these festivals takes place in the Sunshine State: The Florida Film Festival.

A gold Oscar statue against an out-of-focus dark blue and black background. The Florida Film Festival is an Oscar qualifying festival.

In fact, the FFF is one of only a handful of Oscar-qualifying Festivals in 3 short categories, including Animated Short Film, Live Action Short Film, and Documentary Short Subject.

Filmmakers know that the FFF can put their movie on the map, which is why some of the best pieces in the genre end up as features at the film festival.

And that’s not where the star power stops. While many movie stars have attended to participate in Q&As, others have just come to enjoy some great films.

Last year’s celebrity guests included John Cleese and Natasha Lyonne. Glenn Close, Susan Sarandon, Christopher Walken, Steve Buscemi, Emma Stone, and Tippi Hedren have also attended in past years.

How do I get tickets?

Tickets for individual showings at the 2025 Florida Film Festival will go on sale on the Enzian Theater website soon. Festival passes and tickets to the Opening Night Film & Party are already available for purchase.

Last year, it cost $12.50 to watch a single film. Attendees who wanted to watch multiple movies could purchase tickets in bulk packages starting at $60 for five films.

The FFF also has special passes for superfans.

All-access passes in 2025 range between $125 for matinee-only entry to $350 for admission to all films.

If you still want more movie fun, consider one of the festival’s VIP passes. This year, these range between $675 and $1,500 and include admission to exclusive events like the opening night party.

A group of people in rows of seats all facing one direction in a dimly lit room.

Where should I stay when attending the Florida Film Festival?

Consider staying at Rosen Shingle Creek for the Florida Film Festival.

Our Orlando hotel provides luxurious accommodations a short drive away from Maitland and Winter Park.

When you’re not celebrating the silver screen, enjoy star treatment at our on-site restaurants, spa, pools, and golf course.

Or relax in your cozy bed while watching more great films. Connect your smartphone to your in-room TV to stream from your favorite app. Order in-room dining service 24/7 for a truly VIP movie-going experience.

Hands of a waiter pour Champagne into a flute held by a woman, who is joined at a white linen table by a man in a blue shirt. Plates of deviled eggs, salad, rolls, and charcuterie sit on the table.

Here’s a peek at our beautiful 2025 Easter brunch at Rosen Shingle Creek.

Begin with Fresh Appetizers and Small Plates

With starters and salads this good, you’ll have to be mindful not to fill up before you even find the entrées.

Awaken your taste buds with amuse bouches like smoked salmon on a house baked pretzel roll with caper cream cheese, or a yellowfin tuna taco with avocado and crispy rice paper.

Then move onto an array of salads like our Mediterranean couscous salad or the shaved Brussel sprout salad with sliced almonds and a Champagne vinaigrette.

Fill your plate with an array of local and imported cheeses served with an assortment of jams and local honeycomb, as well as antipasto including cured meats and marinated grilled vegetables.

The bruschetta bar allows you to create your own culinary masterpiece with additions like spring bean hummus, pickled local mushrooms, whipped ricotta, stracciatella, basil pesto, and tapenade.

A man in a blue shirt takes a plate of oysters from a waiter in a black jacket, with a small vase of yellow and pink flowers and a large roast ham sitting on the table in front of him.

A Seafood Lover’s Paradise

The seafood station at our Easter buffet overflows with fresh fish and shellfish.

Enjoy chilled gulf white shrimp and gulf oysters, along with a bay scallop ceviche, smoked mahi dip, and a spicy hot sauce bar.

If you prefer your seafood in a sushi roll, our Banrai sushi and dim sum display will make your mouth water.

Treat yourself to a variety of sashimi and nigiri, as well as Rainbow Rolls, Dancing Eel rolls, spicy tuna, and our signature Rosen Roll.

Elegant Entrées

Hands carve a roast ham on a table behind a wooden charcuterie board displaying an array of meats, cheeses, olives, and vegetables.

When you’re at last ready for the main course, you can help yourself to a variety of incredible entrées.

Our Garden Rosemary Leg of Lamb is an Easter classic, served with roasted root vegetables, toasted orzo, and wild rice pilaf.

Equally delicious is our seared snapper with golden cauliflower puree and a unique yuzu butter, and our short ribs served with goat cheese polenta, garden gremolata, and roasted shishito peppers.

Help yourself to our Low Country Shrimp Boil, served with marble potatoes, corn, andouille sausage, and garlic butter.

Don’t forget to stop by the carving station, where you’ll find garden herb crusted prime rib with horseradish cream and a bourbon glazed pit ham with fluffy buttermilk biscuits.

Bountiful Breakfast Food

Brunch just isn’t brunch without pancakes.

Luckily, you can find freshly griddled buttermilk pancakes and maple syrup waiting for you at our Easter buffet.

One of our talented chefs will be making custom omelets at the omelet tation so you can create your perfect concoction.

Cheshire bacon and smoked sausage round out a beautiful selection of breakfast food.

Leave Room for Dessert

A hand in a black jacket passes a plate of food to a woman at a table with a mimosa, salad bowls, and two plates of elegant tarts.

At Rosen Shingle Creek, we pull out all the stops when it comes to dessert.

This year, we’re excited to treat our guests to an incredible assortment of breakfast pastries, including Danishes, croissants, muffins, scones, bagels, and a variety of flavored butters.

Finish (or start) your meal with mini desserts like carrot cake cheesecake, mango coconut cream puffs, key lime tarts, passionfruit macarons, strawberry cream cheese bundt cake, chocolate fudge cupcakes, and over a dozen others.

Kids and grownups alike will love our ice cream bar, where we serve a selection of local ice cream with toppings like mini marshmallows, strawberry popping pearls, fresh fruit, and more.

6 Best Places for Berry Picking Near Orlando

By Kate Cohen
January 10, 2025 (Updated May 5, 2025)

Spring is the sweetest season of all in Central Florida.

That’s because with warmer, more moderate temperatures come an abundance of produce and berries, ripe for picking.

A cropped shot of a young girl with her arms wrapped around a large basket of strawberries in a strawberry patch. Enjoy berry picking near Orlando.

Picking your own berries is the perfect screen-free activity to enjoy with family, or a charming day date with someone special.

Central Florida used to be covered in orange groves and farmland, but a deep freeze pushed many citrus farmers further south. Combined with the quickly growing city of Orlando, many family farms were sold or moved elsewhere.

Today, you can still find farms opening their fields to guests interested in a U-Pick experience.

Though many are a bit of a drive from the city of Orlando (think half an hour to an hour away), it’s well worth the journey to enjoy beautiful Florida weather and some of the tastiest fruit the state has to offer.

Here are the 5 best places for berry picking near Orlando.

Southern Hill Farms

Clermont, FL

Southern Hill Farms is one of the most popular destinations for U-pick produce and agrotourism in Orlando.

Their Fall Festival is a must when autumn comes around, transforming the farm into a wonderland of pumpkins and cidery goodness.

In the spring, Southern Hill Farms is the perfect spot for picking strawberries, blueberries, peaches, and other seasonal goodies.

Their strawberry U-Pick season begins as early as December. Harvest your own ripe ruby-colored berries for as long as the season lasts.

Starting in March, you can pick your own blueberries – five different varieties of them, to be exact. Three varieties of peaches are also available for picking around the same time of year.

Additionally, you can pick your own towering sunflower stems in the spring, fall, and winter.

Come hungry to enjoy food and drinks from the Southern Hill Eatery, Southern Hill Café, and guest food trucks.

The Kid Zone is full of carnival rides and attractions to keep younger pickers entertained on weekends. Entry to this area of the farm is $24 for guests 42” and taller, and $20 for anyone under 42”.

Amber Brooke Farms

Eustis, FL

U-Pick adventures at Amber Brooke Farms have become a favorite tradition for many Orlando-area families.

With over 155 acres of produce and an array of activities for guests of all ages to enjoy, it’s the perfect place to enjoy a day of fresh Florida sunshine and take time to reconnect with nature.

Throughout the spring, you’ll find a variety of rotating U-Pick crops, including strawberries, blueberries, sunflowers, zinnias, sweet corn, and fresh vegetables.

While you’re picking berries, flowers, and sweet corn, you can also treat your party to a Farm Fun Pass for $10, giving you access to attractions like the giant slide hill, jump pads, a ball zone, and playgrounds.

Concessions are also available for purchase so you can stay refreshed, hydrated, and satiated throughout your visit to Amber Brooke Farms.

Pappy’s Patch U-Pick Strawberries

Oviedo, FL

Pappy’s Patch U-Pick Strawberries is a popular spot for straightforward strawberry picking with heart.

Their U-Pick season typically begins in December and lasts through April, depending on the weather.

Keep your eye on their Facebook page for updates about when they’ll be open and the status of their crops.

This popular farm sells out of berries quickly, and you don’t want to be locked outside the gate when the farm is picked over for the day!

Far Reach Ranch Blueberries

Tavares, FL

Blueberry lovers can adventure to Tavares for some good ol’ fashioned blueberry picking.

Once an orange grove and cattle ranch, Far Reach Ranch has become a sprawling berry farm and beloved hidden gem of the Central Florida agricultural community.

Pick your own blueberries from March through May. They even host Sunset U-Pick events where you can enjoy berry picking, free sunset hayrides, tasty food, live music, and more.

When you visit the Ranch, prepare to be tempted by a selection of homemade blueberry baked goods, jams, and other sweet treats.

8 Questions to Ask When Choosing a Wedding Venue

January 10, 2025 (Updated May 5, 2025)

Congratulations! You said “YES.”

Now comes the fun part – bringing the wedding of your dreams to life.

February is National Wedding Month, which conveniently culminates as National Wedding Planning Day on March 1. This makes late winter/early spring the perfect time to start designing your dream day, beginning with the all-important question: where should you have your wedding?

Outside in front of a lake and trees, a bride and groom pause to share a kiss in the aisle surrounded by people throwing white rose petals. Rosen Shingle Creek is a beautiful wedding venue in Orlando.

One of the first major decisions to check off your list is choosing a venue. Knowing where you’re hosting your wedding can help you determine other choices like your menu, décor, and entertainment.

Seeing your potential wedding venue in person is critical to making your decision. You’ll get a sense of the overall vibes of the space while also getting inspiration for your big day.

But there’s so much more to a wedding venue than appearance. To make sure you’re making the right decision for your unique occasion, here is a list of 8 questions to ask when choosing a wedding venue.

Considering hosting your wedding at Rosen Shingle Creek? Contact our wedding specialist to go over all of your important questions.

8 Questions to Ask when Choosing a Wedding Venue

1. What is the venue’s capacity?

Your wedding is one of the most memorable days of your life, in part because of the people surrounding you and your partner. It’s important to make sure there’s room for everyone to celebrate by your side.

Before starting to tour venues, draft your guest list. Determine if your wedding will be kid-friendly, and who will get a plus-one.

Once you’ve estimated your headcount, use it to identify venues that can comfortably accommodate your family and friends.

In addition to maximum capacities, wedding venues have minimum guest counts. If you’re planning an intimate wedding, confirm any minimums and see if you’re able to offset a smaller guest count by spending more on things like décor or an upgraded alcohol package.

2. How much is the base site fee? What does it include?

Besides the guest list, the budget is one of the first things you should consider when planning a wedding (and they often go hand-in-hand).

While many details of your wedding (like the menu and entertainment) can be adjusted according to budget, venues often charge a non-negotiable site fee.

When researching or touring a wedding venue, establish how much this fee is and what it includes.

If it includes food, alcohol, bartenders, service fees, and other wedding costs, a high site fee may save you money — and time —compared to piecing together a variety of á la carte services.

Additionally, find out if amenities like a rehearsal and getting-ready suite are included in the site fee. If not, are they available as add-ons?

3. Is the venue accessible to me, my partner, and my guests?

After putting time and thought into your guest list, ensure that as many invitees as possible can make it to your special day.

Depending on your guests and their individual needs, accessibility can mean different things. You may find yourself asking the following questions:

Can guests with physical disabilities navigate the venue? (Keep in mind that historic venues are sometimes exempt from ADA requirements.)

If the venue has in-house catering, can they accommodate allergies and dietary restrictions?

Is there space for children’s activities?

Can the venue accommodate a sensory-friendly A/V set-up or provide a quiet room?

If you’re planning a destination wedding or will invite out-of-town guests, accessibility can also mean ensuring your guests can easily get to your wedding venue.

Depending on how most guests will travel to your wedding, consider how close your prospective venue is to the nearest airport, train station, or interstate.

It’s also important to consider where out-of-town guests will stay while traveling for your event.

When you hold your reception at a hotel, you can often secure a discounted room rate for family and friends.

Your guests will love the convenience of a hotel wedding venue — they won’t need to worry about getting home after a long day of celebrating.

4. What dates are available?

Wedding venues often book up months — or years — in advance.

You and your spouse-to-be may want to get married on a specific, meaningful date. If not, it’s best to choose a time of year you’d like to get married while staying flexible on the exact day.

Either way, find out how far out any venues of interest are booking weddings.

Then, decide if their availability works with your timeframe.

5. What are the venue’s wedding vendor policies?

It’s common for wedding venues to have preferred vendor lists.

These lists can save you valuable time when finding and hiring professionals like officiants, DJs, and photographers.

When you receive this list, research the companies included to see if there are vendors who can carry out your wedding vision.

This step is especially important if cultural traditions will come into play when planning your ceremony, menu, or music.

If you want to hire a wedding professional who’s not on the list, be sure you understand the venue’s policy on outside vendors.

Keep in mind that they may be more flexible on some vendor types than others, or they may only make exceptions for cultural reasons.

6. How long will you have access to the space?

Your wedding day is much more than a ceremony and reception.

Your vendors need to set up, and you need to get ready for the big day.

You’ll also want to hold a ceremony rehearsal, typically the night before the wedding.

While touring a wedding location, determine how early your vendors can arrive and when the wedding planner or coordinator can begin decorating the space.

If you think you’ll need more time for set-up, ask if you can extend your rental and how much it would cost.

7. What happens if your plans change?

If you’ve ever attended a wedding on a rainy day or know anyone who got married in 2020, you know that even couples who’ve thought of everything sometimes need to pivot.

If your sights are set on an outdoor wedding, find out how your venue handles inclement weather. Will they provide a tent or backup space indoors? Avoid unwanted surprises by asking about your venue’s policy on rescheduling in the event of health concerns or a major storm.

8. What else is there to do at my wedding venue?

Planning a wedding takes a lot of work. While you want to be thorough when researching wedding venues, don’t let the daunting decision distract you from what a wedding truly is: a fun party with your closest family and friends.

More often, couples are looking beyond the ceremony and reception and planning whole wedding weekends, packed with mouthwatering meals and exciting excursions.

If you’re looking to host an unforgettable wedding weekend in Orlando, Rosen Shingle Creek is a wonderful venue option.

Our hotel features stunning views that will add an air of elegance to your event and make your wedding pictures sparkle.
