ORLANDO (Sept. 26, 2012) – Quite possibly the event of the year for Central Florida foodies and wine connoisseurs, Friday, Oct. 12 marks the third and final event in the three-part wine pairing series “Dinner with Harris Rosen hosted by Scott Joseph.” Themed “The Andes: East and West,” the event takes place from 6:30 p.m. to approximately 10 p.m. at the AAA Four Diamond A Land Remembered steakhouse at Rosen Shingle Creek and will feature six incredible courses accompanied by wines from Montes Winery in Chile and Achaval Ferrer Winery in Argentina.
As guests indulge in course after mouth-watering course, Orlando food critic Scott Joseph will serve as host along with Rosen Hotels & Resorts President & COO Harris Rosen, who will share some of his personal recollections and experiences related to the building of Rosen Shingle Creek, his most luxurious hotel, as well as the steakhouse he named for a favorite novel, “A Land Remembered” by Florida novelist Patrick Smith.
After reading Smith’s tome chronicling the dogged determination of three generations of Florida pioneers, Rosen decided, “So precious is Patrick’s book that we have dedicated our entire Shingle Creek theme to it.” The restaurant captures what Smith so artfully penned — the rugged spirit, natural beauty and colorful history of the state in an era when cotton, cattle and citrus were its prime industries. The hotel’s location alongside the picturesque Shingle Creek pays homage to the area’s earliest settlers who used the waterway to transport cypress logs later used as roofing shingles, thus its name. As part of the headwaters of the Florida Everglades, Shingle Creek remains a vital part of the state’s ecosystem. Rosen is dedicated to its preservation and also will share with guests his experiences regarding “Expedition Everglades” and other conservation efforts.
The evening begins at 6:30 p.m. with a welcome reception, where guests can enjoy a taste of Argentinian Picada followed by an amuse course of Cured Salami & Dried Sausage and Four-Year Aged Cheddar, Manchengo & Monterey Jack Cheeses with a Pascual Toso Sparkling Brut; a Paprikia Cumin Pork and Chorizo Sweet Potato Pancake paired with a Kaiken Corte; Empanadas de Pino as well as Beef, Olives, Eggs & Raisins with a Santa Ema Reserve Merlot; and Chilled Citrus Shrimp with Quince Jam, served with a Norton Malbec Rose.
Seating will begin at 7 p.m. and is soon followed by the first course: Ceviche with Sea Scallops, Limes, Cucumber, Spanish Olives, Oregano & Spicy Tomato. The salad course consists of Baby Organic Greens with Roasted Peppers, Olive Oil Poached Campari Tomatoes, Avocado and Marcona Almonds, served with an Achaval Ferrer Malbec. An Herb Crusted Chilean Sea Bass is next, served with Carmenere Syrup and Bordeaux Baby Spinach & Pine Nuts accompanied by a Montes Purple Angel. The main course is succulent Gaucho Churassco Steak—a New York Strip with Argentinian Fries & Chimichurri as well as Chilean Bean and Corn Stew, paired with a Montes Outer Limits CGM. Finally, for dessert, Smoky Cheese as well as Plum Ice Cream & Mil Hojas with Toasted Nuts & Honey Drizzle, accompanied by a Montes Cherub Rose of Syrah.
Cost of the dinner is $85 per guest inclusive of tax and gratuity. Each couple reserving seats for the event will also receive a certificate valid for a two-night stay that can be redeemed by paying $149 plus applicable taxes. The two-night stay must be for a consecutive Friday and Saturday, is based on availability and is not valid with groups, meetings or special events or with any other coupons or promotional offers. The certificate will be valid Oct. 12, 2012 through Oct. 11, 2013.
